Master Class « Theater Games and Playfulness » – Tuan Ly

In this workshop, the participants will explore ways of developing and connecting to the innate playfulness, spontaneity and alertness in performance. Through various tasks, games and exercises taken from physical theatre practices, they will investigate different states of engagement as individuals within an ensemble and see how we can apply what we discovers to dance practice. The chosen games aim to engage multiple areas of the performer’s range and capabilities; allowing the participants to explore and challenge themselves through multi-layered, simultaneous and confusing body-mind processes.

The day will start with a morning class; to wake and thoroughly warm up our bodies. Beginning with guided improvisation Tuan Ly open the space to connect to the own sense for composition, articulation and somatic awareness, followed by more structured, physically challenging and dynamic phrases and combinations.

Through the games the participants will pay particular attention to the sense of failure, developing a deeper understanding of what it may mean to fail and how we can use this as a catalyst for creativity, joy and motivation.
