Grand Luxe network

Grand Luxe network

Introduced in 2015 and building on seven partner structures each following their missions in dance development, the Grand Luxe network sets up personalised support programmes for new choreography creators and their projects.

The five founding structures – Grand Studio, Brussels; CCN – Ballet de Lorraine, Nancy; Ballet de l’Opéra National du Rhin – CCN Mulhouse; POLE-SUD – CDCN, Strasbourg and TROIS C-L – Centre de Création Chorégraphique Luxembourgeois, decided to bring together their knowledge and their teams to help artistic projects from their respective territories that, at a particular point in their development, require specific assistance adapted to their individual needs. In 2018, the arrival of two new members with first Theater Freiburg and then L’Abri in Geneva provided additional opportunities to artists.

Strengthened by their common objectives, these organisations first got together in 2015 to develop an original approach, based on evaluation and bringing together the individual resources of each structure. The idea of the “Grand Luxe” lies in the will to make the most of non-financial contributions. In fact, it is based on the observation that the majority of existing programmes or projects concerning production and promotion use financial means as their sole point of leverage. The challenge was therefore to expand the content by coming together and suggesting other contributions linked to project creation and the professionalisation of artistic teams.

Each year, the network partners put forward artistic teams with precise needs to which the network members can reply.  A support programme, defined in collaboration with the artists, is developed by the Grand Luxe network which provides concrete assistance by combining the capabilities of different partner structures beyond the traditional financial contributions of coproducing a project.

The support given to the artistic teams takes various forms depending on the skills and abilities of each network member.  It could be a question of administrative support, specific training, access to workspaces or even external feedbacks and advice. But this cannot be an exhaustive list. The potential is endless which is what makes the Grand Luxe network unique and strong. The aim is to support artistic teams in their quest for greater professionalisation.

As part of the Exp.Edition 2017 – Biennale de la danse du Grand Est, TROIS C-L organised events focused on the Grand Luxe network, including a professional platform on Thursday 30th November 2017 as well as the “3 du TROIS” on Sunday 3rd December 2017. These two events were the occasion, for the general public as well as professionals from the cultural and artistic sector, to meet the artists and the Grand Luxe network and to learn more about their respective work.

The next professional platform organised by Grand Luxe network will take place at L‘Abri in Geneva on May 14th and 15th, 2020 as part of Dance Day in Switzerland. Choreographer Simone Mousset will present her new piece The Passion of Andrea 2 and Valérie Reding will participate as well, presenting herself and her work to professionals from the contemporary dance field.
