Towards new adventures!

Luxembourg’s choreographic art is not the heir to a long tradition. Before the 1980s, professional dance was an imported affair, its existence limited to the comings and goings of municipal theater programming. While these imports were of the highest quality, they also reflected the era’s taste for conformity. At the same time, pioneers in Luxembourg were trying to pave the way for a new, unusual and often misunderstood dance form known as “contemporary dance”. Contemporary dance Made in Luxembourg was born.

Let’s delve a little deeper into the history of TROIS C-L and contemporary dance in Luxembourg:

Recognizing the public’s interest in choreographic art and the need to develop the sector, in 1994 the Ministry of Culture initiated the creation of a brand new structure dedicated to dance, the “Théâtre Dansé et Muet” (TDM).

After 10 years in existence, the TDM was already fulfilling in practice the missions of a Centre de Création Chorégraphique. In 2005, the transformation of the TDM into TROIS C-L – Centre de Création Chorégraphique Luxembourgeois – was the turning point in the adventure of professionalizing dance.

Finally, in 2023, a new page has been turned for contemporary dance in Luxembourg:

On June 29, 2023, the Chamber of Deputies voted that the TROIS C-L – Centre de Création Chorégraphique Luxembourgeois will become a Maison pour la danse and an institution of public interest on January 1, 2024. This is yet another historic moment for contemporary dance in Luxembourg.

TROIS C-L will remain true to its mission: Welcoming artists and audiences, nurturing territories through research, training and the sharing of practices and knowledge for professionals and amateurs alike. Combining artists’ approaches with everyone’s curiosity, the TROIS C-L invents and reinvents courses for all audiences.
