3 DU TROIS | Fragmented feminine bodies

VÉNUS ANATOMIQUE – Sarah Baltzinger

VÉNUS ANATOMIQUE invites us to enter a Venus factory that reveals identical bodies, in kit form, fragmented and mechanically assembled as part of a major surgical operation to achieve a single model of the ideal Venus. Inspired by popular culture, mythology and the different versions of Venus that have been made and transformed throughout our history, Sarah Baltzinger invites us to question our way of seeing in a choreography that deconstructs the female body. VÉNUS ANATOMIQUE is a study of our bodies as women, the way we look at them, the shackles we wear and the way they are staged.

Divine Thanks for Near Misses – Fotini Stamatelopoulou

In this work-in-progress Fotini Stamatelopoulou explores, through movement, sound and history, notions of human anatomy and perceptions of female bodies. Drawing inspiration from Mediterranean cultures where votive offerings depict body parts, Divine Thanks for Near Misses questions the social constructions around contemporary faith in relation to the body through a series of detachable metal objects that take the form of armour. The narrative created by Fotini Stamatelopoulou reflects a personal altar of metal and sound that hosts an exacerbated and laborious composition about the ways in which strength, faith and hope are conquered.

Fit for a King – Aifric Ní Chaoimh with LUCODA

Social and societal power dynamics will also be represented in the short choreographic film Fit for a King directed by Aifric Ní Chaoimh in collaboration with LUCODA. Through the lens of three characters, the power and experience of identity of each individual in relation to disability, culture, gender, race and age are highlighted and challenged through a constructed and choreographed perception of bodies.
