Opening night | Plate-Forme AWA Part 3

Come and discover the third edition of the Plate-Forme AWA, the European platform for young choreographic creation in the Grand Duchy!

The Kinnekbsond, Centre Culturel Mamer, TROIS C-L | Maison pour la danse, the company AWA – As We Are and the Confédération nationale de la Danse Luxembourg are joining forces to offer two weeks devoted to dance.

The Plate-Forme AWA aims to immerse the public in the worlds of young international artists, and to build bridges between dance enthusiasts and professionals. These are the major challenges facing the four partners.

A range of dance workshops for all audiences and professionals, two evenings of performances and two round-table discussions on contemporary themes will be offered to the general public at TROIS C-L and Kinneksbond.

Each evening will offer the chance to discover 4 choreographic works and to discuss topical issues during lectures.

An opening evening at TROIS C-L | Maison pour la danse on Saturday 17 February 2024 and a closing evening at Kinneksbond, Centre Culturel MAMER on Saturday 24 February are on offer with various performances and lectures.

►Opening night

Heart – Joël O’Donoghue

Heart is an investigation into young people’s views on romance and beauty, and how popular culture can influence them. The work is a series of sketches that move from a Gene Kelly-inspired tap dance, to a literal interpretation of the metaphors of ‘falling in love’, as well as a song inspired by extracts from 90s romantic comedies and recreations of romantic paintings from the 1800s.

Mood ShiftersAndrea Constanzo Martini

Emotional mimicry is the process by which we understand another person’s emotion by imitating their expression or movement. The path to the other person, even before language, passes through their face and the joy, fear, disgust, curiosity, anger and sadness they express. The performance/exposure of feelings to the outside world helps us to navigate, understand and express our needs towards each other. In this short piece, three dancers embark on a journey shared with the audience, roaming the stage in search of intimacy, love and above all recognition, at any cost.

The Chain – Léa Tirabasso & la Junior Compagny CND

The play explores the road we must travel and the stratagems we must put in place together to achieve our dreams and desires; glitz, glamour and happiness. Sprinkled with unwavering support and stumbling insects, this play is like a quest that we are stubborn about.

Re V Ivre – l’Ensemble Blancontact

« I am life that wants to live, surrounded by life that wants to live. » – Albert Schweitzer

Re V Ivre – Spring, the first season, rebirth, the revival of natural processes – the wood rebels from winter and comes alive again. It’s the rising energy, the intoxication of colours and emotions. Bringing together matter, sound and movement, this choreographic piece, performed by a dozen dancers, invites the spectator to discover individual strengths and collective movements in a raw, overflowing bouquet.

The new creation Re V Ivre marks both a restart of the blanContact project and a transition to a sustainable inclusive dance ensemble, Ensemble blanContact. The blanContact project, initiated by Mierscher Kulturhaus and co-produced by Théâtres de la Ville since 2016, brings together professional artists and dancers with and without physical disabilities. It has been running for 15 years.
